Giving Tuesday 2021

Giving Tuesday is a an international day of charitable giving at the beginning of the holiday season, that takes place on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It is a movement created to unleash the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. Please remember Fishtown on this day of giving. #givingtuesday #campaignforfishtown #savefishtown #fishtownforever

We are thrilled to announce that we received more than $122,000 on this global day of giving, $61,000 from all of you, and $61,000 from our match challenge
donors. In one day, we moved the dial from needing $856,000 to complete the $5.29 Campaign for Fishtown — to $734,000. For additional information, click here.

The emails, phone calls, and Facebook and Instagram messages have been inspiring. Thank you to everyone who donated and helped spread the word. Thank you, as well, to our trio of supporters, who were ready to meet your generosity dollar for dollar.

This Giving Tuesday, be a part of the legacy that is Fishtown—and help us make the final lift.

On Giving Tuesday, November 30, 2021—for every dollar you give to Fishtown Preservation, your gift will be matched dollar by dollar. A team of three incredible Fishtown supporters have come together to match all donations to Fishtown Preservation on this day of giving. That means the impact of your donation will be doubled! Our goal is to raise at least $60,000 to the Campaign for Fishtown. While we’re wishing and dreaming, wouldn’t it be amazing if we could raise even more!

We are grateful that the water rushing through Fishtown is lower than it was this time last year, and that we’ve made progress on repairing the damage the high waters have inflicted on the shanties, docks and landscape. With the high water, of course, also came additional expense.

Funding for the projects come from The Campaign for Fishtown, a comprehensive campaign for Fishtown’s most pressing needs. FPS must still raise $856,000 to complete the work necessary to secure Fishtown’s shanties and infrastructure and meet our campaign goal of $5.3 million. That means that we have raised over $4.4 million, thanks to those who value Fishtown and have invested in its future.

FPS has made great progress but needs all of our help to finish the hands-on work of saving Fishtown.

Where we are now

To understand where we are now, this is a summary of Campaign for Fishtown projects that are done and underway in Fishtown. In 2019, we paid off the mortgage for the 2007 original Fishtown purchase. In 2020, we were able to save the Village Cheese Shanty and the Morris Shanty. In 2021, we’ve begun steps to save The Otherside Shanty and Carlson’s Fishery. What a couple of years it has been!

We also have projects yet to come. Before the end of the year will begin the huge job of replacing the north side docks, which have become a safety hazard for the more than 300,000 a year who visit and enjoy Fishtown. Yet to come, as well, hopefully beginning by the end of 2022, are fortifying Diversions and the Ice House, site drainage issues, and improving public access throughout Fishtown.

We’ve just begun work on Carlson’s Fishery! For a glimpse into the challenges of saving and working on this historic shanty, please see this story from the Leelanau Ticker.
