Leland Community Cleanup + Care – JUNE 20th

Leland Community Cleanup + Care

Meeting Point: The gazebo in front of The Find North, 102 N. Main St., Leland, MI

Saturday, June 20, 10-12 PM

Join us in Leland on Saturday, June 20th for a couple hours of good work, good people, and a few well-earned perks.

We’re bringing the community together to help clean up Leland and spend intentional time caring for a place we all love.

Attendees can look forward to complimentary snacks and drinks throughout the morning, door prizes from local businesses, sun care products from Valor Skincare, more information about Fishtown Preservation Society, a space to connect with others in the community, and more!

What to bring:

  • Protective gloves
  • Trash grabber
  • Reusable bag or bucket – a limited quantity of reusable bags will be available while supplies last
  • Closed toed shoes
  • Reusable water bottle

*  Start the day with yoga on the beach at 9am with River Studio. This special all-levels community class is donation-based, with a minimum donation of $20. 100% of proceeds benefit Fishtown Preservation. To sign up visit https://bit.ly/49ukxGt.

 * End your special visit to Leland from 12:00pm – 1:30pm with Birianne Farley reading her book “Worm Makes a Sandwich,” as well as book signings and collage craft for kids. Event is in the Find North back yard (OAB if inclement weather). Co-hosted by Find North and the Old Art Building.

Valor Skincare: a Traverse City-based skincare + personal care brand committed to clean ingredients, low waste packaging, and helping people live a radiant life.

The Find North: an independent retail destination with locations in Leland and Northport, curating goods that celebrate the spirit of Northern Michigan.

Fishtown Preservation Society: works to preserve and protect the historic character of Fishtown — a beloved collection of weathered fishing shanties, smokehouses, docks, charter boats, and fish tugs along the Leland River in Michigan. Your participation helps support the ongoing preservation of this unique and treasured community landmark.

Did you know:

According to national research by Keep America Beautiful, an estimated 6,700 pieces of litter accumulate per mile of roadway annually, translating to an estimated 13,000 or more pieces of trash on Leland’s streets and waterways each year, much of it concentrated along the Leland River and the Fishtown dock area during the busy tourist season. While there may not be much litter on any given day, this event helps remind us that all our beloved places and waters need to be protected, and we can each play a role in their care.
