Giving Tuesday 2022 ~ Your heart is here

For Giving Tuesday 2022, Fishtown Preservation is honoring all the ways that Fishtown helps us keep treasured memories. Our theme, “Your heart is here” is in honor of a Fishtown love story.

Jim Walker first visited the Leland area in 1954 with his parents, and years later he introduced this special world to Jo Ellen Corpe. She was enamored immediately, though once asked Jim “what would have happened if I didn’t like it ‘up north’?” But Jo did love it, and Fishtown became the hub of special times together. They even got married on the deck of the Cove.

Jo was a doer and immersed herself in this community, including serving on the Fishtown Preservation board of directors. Jo had a way of making the hard work that she did seem easy, not just for Fishtown, but for the many causes in the area for which she fought tirelessly. She was always rallying the troops, always in the heart of things, and never backed away from a challenge. And she loved the challenge of Fishtown.

Fishtown is a place where memories are made, and where a special person or moment can be treasured forever. Jim Walker knows this from experience, and on this Giving Tuesday wants to inspire you to give a gift that will keep Fishtown here for memories past and those yet to be made. This Giving Tuesday, Jim is offering a $10,000 match challenge to honor the memory of his wife, Jo Walker, who passed away suddenly in September 2019, and all that Fishtown means to him, and meant to them.

With your Giving Tuesday gift this year, think about a special person or moment that will be forever in your memory, thanks to Fishtown. Giving Tuesday is a way to do that something more, and helps keep Fishtown here for everyone.
