The Friends of Fishtown Virtual 5K 2022 – REGISTER TODAY!
Our 14th annual Friends of Fishtown 5K will be a hybrid event, with both an in-person and a virtual race. All proceeds go towards preserving historic Fishtown the place, the stories and the Leland fishing tradition. Join us in Fishtown, Leland, or from wherever you are, and be a joyful runner for Fishtown!

Why a hybrid Fishtown 5K
While having our race virtually in 2020 and 2021 we discovered there are many of you who had always wanted to participate in the Fishtown 5K, but could not be in Leland in July. Now, not only will hundreds of you come from far and wide to run through the streets of Leland, many of you will also be celebrating Fishtown from far-flung places.
Race Information
In Fishtown, Leland: Starting and finishing in the heart of Fishtown, gradual climbs and graceful descents make our chip-times 5K ideal for the serious runner or the whole family. Runners, walkers, strollers and leashed dogs are all welcome. Rain or shine. Click here for in person registration.
Your in-person race registration includes:
- Race day, Saturday, July 16 at 9:00 a.m.
- RFID Chip Timing (through Newton Timing & Race Services, of Davison)
- Included in the Traverse City Track Club’s 2022 Grand Prix Series
- Corral starting line with fastest runners at the front
- You receive:
- Fishtown 5K logo tee
- Hydration stations throughout the course
- Post-race fuel
- Commemorative race bib
- Fishtown 5K logo sticker
- Chance to win race medals unique to Fishtown
- Chance to win early-registration prizes and a painting by artist Neil Walling
- Overall Female and Male winners receive Malcolm Chatfield fish tug plaques

12-under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+
Our specially hand made medals are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each age category.

The official race route will be marked, but here’s a map to help you plan your race
Virtual (everywhere!): Our virtual race allows you to walk, hike or run the race on your own time wherever you choose a neighborhood route, a nature trail, a treadmill, or even laps around the back yard. Virtual race participants will receive a race packet via USPS mail with the essential items needed to complete the race between July 16th and July 23rd. Please be certain to confirm your mailing address! Click here for virtual registration.

June 20: ** last day to register securing a race t-shirt is included in your packet
July 13: last day to register online
PACKET PICK UP
- July 15: for in-person registrants 2 – 6pm in the Leland Library’s – Munnecke Room (203 E Cedar St. Leland, MI)
- July 16: in Fishtown 7:30am to 9:00am – Packets will also be available at FPS office, Monday-Friday, after July 16 race day.
July 16: in-person race day! Register by 8:30 a.m. to have your race Chip Timed
July 23: last day for virtual race, register by 11:59 p.m., squeeze in a run for Fishtown and a chance to win a fabulous painting of Fishtown
**If you want to secure a race t-shirt you must register by this date. We will be ordering a few additional t-shirts but they will be first come first serve.
Prizes!
We love early birds! Everyone who registers starting in February through the end of May will be entered into monthly drawings to win a free race registration and a Fishtown Preservation goodie bag. Drawings will be held at the beginning of March, April, May and June. The sooner you register the more chances you have to win!
Everyone who registers now through the end of the race will also be entered to win “Working With Joy” (below) a 16 x 20 inch framed oil painting of Fishtown by artist Neil Walling. The winner will be announced on July 25, after the conclusion of the virtual race.
Participant Packets
Register early to get your full race packet, including commemorative t-shirt, race bib and event logo sticker. Registrations through June 20 will receive a race packet. Registrations after June 20 will not received a t-shirt. All registrants will receive a commemorative bib and sticker, while supplies last. T-shirt sizes include Youth XS, S, M, L (select Adult S for Youth XL) and Adult S, M, L, XL and XXL. Don’t need a t-shirt? Choose to make an additional contribution to Fishtown Preservation by opting out.
- In person race packet pick-up is:
♦Friday, July 15, from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the Leland Township Munnecke Room (203 E Cedar St., Leland, MI)
♦Saturday, July 16, race day morning, in Fishtown, from 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
- Virtual participant packets will be sent via USPS mail. Please be certain to confirm your mailing address when registering.

The past two years have been challenging, but we look back and feel such gratitude and joy for the ways that everyone has shown love for Fishtown that we decided to make that our race theme. We’re pairing Fishtown Preservation’s commercial fishing vessel JOY with a joyful run because wherever and however you are participating whether as a walker, runner, sponsor, donor, or an explorer of Fishtown or even your own neighborhood we know you’ll do it with joy!
