We Are Fishtown Preservation

What Is Fishtown

Fishtown is a collection of weathered fishing shanties, smokehouses, overhanging docks, fish tugs and charter boats along the Leland River in Leland, Michigan. The heart of a commercial fishing village, Fishtown is where we can still see and feel a connection to the long tradition of Great Lakes maritime culture.

You Can Help

Few places are as real as Fishtown. Here we can preserve a living link to a long Great Lakes maritime heritage, as well as to our own families and memories. We want to ensure that Fishtown remains alive for future generations. Your participation will make all the difference for Fishtown.

When @amypeterman_art reached out about joining A When @amypeterman_art reached out about joining Art Shanty with her mom, Chris Roosien of @briarrosefibers , we knew it would be something special. And it truly is. Together, these two artists radiate creativity and kindness—you’ll feel it the moment you step into their space.

Amy has been a graphic artist for over 20 years, and recently rekindled her love for painting. Her landscapes shine with color and light, pulling you into each scene as if you’re standing there yourself.

That same deep, rich sense of color runs in the family. Chris, of Briar Rose Fibers, is a master at dyeing yarns in luxurious hues. She’s also brought along some of her exquisite knitted pieces—each one carrying her signature warmth and craftsmanship.

Come meet Amy and Chris this week at Art Shanty. You’ll want to linger, soaking in their art, their colors, and their warm presence.
