The past seven years Fishtown’s shanties, docks and landscape have been steadily repaired and rehabilitated from the devastating effects of high-water levels, with our contractors laboring through the long cold winters completing one project at a time. We push steadily ahead, doing this work because we know that Fishtown is historically important and irreplaceable.
But we also know that Fishtown has meaning for countless people, from generations of families who summer in this region and those just visiting Fishtown for the first time, to those who have lived in Leland all their lives and count Fishtown as part of their daily experience.
We have chosen a theme for Giving Tuesday this year, “Fishtown—for the very first time,” in honor of those first Fishtown experiences that so often form a lifelong connection. Over the course of Giving Tuesday in our emails and social media posts we’ll share a few stories about first time visits to Fishtown and the impact of this magical place on people like you.
Fishtown is here today because of those first visits that forged a love of Fishtown and led to supporting Fishtown Preservation, the non-profit organization that cares for Fishtown season after season and year after year. The ongoing work of caring for Fishtown has been because of you and can’t happen without you.
We’d love for this day to stir your recollections and stories. Do you remember the first time you saw Fishtown? Share your story with us at info@fishtownmi.org, or on Facebook or Instagram.
