Something is about to end for Fishtown—and we’re looking forward to it.
Fishtown has always been about continuity. It’s the place that anchors us, our families and our memories against the constant pull of time. We give to Fishtown because we want Fishtown to keep going … forever.
What’s ending is the actual purchase of Fishtown. When the Fishtown Preservation Society (FPS) purchased our Fishtown properties, the Carlson family provided the financing for the sale, in effect acting as the bank. We committed to monthly payments of $12,500, including principal and interest, and to additional balloon payments of $355,000 in February 2017, and $876,000 in February 2019.
We have been raising funds to meet these balloon payments since the beginning of 2012. In the spring of this year, this campaign had already received commitments of $658,000, much of it from people who were instrumental in the original Fishtown Purchase Fund and have remained invested in Fishtown both financially and personally. Their gifts have been an opportunity to bring full circle the commitment they began in 2006.
Please join this dedicated group with your own financial contribution.
We’re happy to announce that the Edmund F. and Virginia B. Ball Foundation has approved a grant to FPS of $300,000. With this gift, we are now just $273,000 away from finalizing the original acquisition phase for Fishtown.
When we have reached this goal, we plan to recognize these donors at the entrance to Fishtown, pairing those behind the original financing of Fishtown Preservation in 2006 with the donors in the following decade who complete our original journey to “Save Fishtown.” This permanent part of Fishtown—including your name—will recognize and announce that you are part of Fishtown forever.Give Now
