In celebration of our 10th Annual Fishtown 5K, we’ve declared 2018 the “Year of the Tug.” From the historic Goodwill and Helen S. to the Joy and Janice Sue of today, these vessels connect Fishtown to Lake Michigan’s vast bounty of fish.
You’re invited to share in Leland’s rich maritime history by making a fishing tug costume, and joining in our procession at the Leland 4th of July Parade, and/or at the Fishtown 5K (July 21). In addition to our amazing 5K race medals, specific medals will be given for the best tug costume and the first three tugs to cross the finish line.
Join us at one (or both) of our free Tug Costume Building Workshops—all ages are welcome. We’ll provide the building material (including cardboard, paint, twine, tape and brushes), photo reference, direction and hands-on help or bring your own costume material and your creativity!
TWO FREE WORKSHOPS:
Thursday, June 28 ~ 1-4pm –AND– Tuesday, July 10, 1-4pm in the Munnecke Room at Leland library.
RSVP appreciated, but not required. For more information and/or to RSVP call 231-256-8878 or stop by the Fishtown Preservation office—or the Fishtown Welcome Center. Those unable to stay for the entire workshop can pick-up cardboard and twine to take home.
